Tibag is the town my grandmother lived. Next door to her home her eldest son, Tito Totoy (or rather Papa Max as he is more affectionately known), still lives with his grandchildren.
When we say Tibag we normally refer to just the general area my grandmother lived or in particular their lot on the T section of the road.
It still has the vulcanizing business that she ran, which continues to operate under my cousins today. My other cousin (Manny) owns a motorbike wash next door and my other cousin (Ludy) runs a little canteen where she sells a Goto or Lugaw, which is the Filipino version of the Chinese congee dish.
Everytime I visit the Philippines this is one of my favourite places to go. I love just sitting on the stools outside watching the crazy traffic, having a snack and listening to Tito Totoy tell stories of the past.
